Stan and Vera hemingway
Related to Jackson, India, Elijah, Millicent and Harley through their grandfather David Hemingway
Stan and Vera married in October 1935 in South Manchester. They lived at 206 Gorton Road, Reddish in Stockport, Cheshire UK with Stan’s parents Thomas and Harriett.
Early Married Life
In 1943 Vera gave birth to twin sons David and Peter. Born X hours apart David never let Peter forget he was the older brother.
Going to Australia
In Post World War 2 England opportunities for young families were limited. But The Australian and new Zealand Governments were on a ‘Populate or Perish’ strategy and set about an aggressive recruitment program where a person could pay ten pounds processing fee and secure a one way trip to Australia (or NZ) where job and housing opportunities abound. On xx 1956 they boarded the RMS Strathnaver…..
Upon arrival in Adelaide the family settled into the XXX Migrant camp.
Early Years in Adelaide
As a qualified tradesman (Toolmaker?)Stan found work quickly with…. the bought a house in Clearview. Where they lived until their deaths Stan in 1979 and Vera in 2000.
Final Resting Place
Stanley and Vera are buried in the Enfield Memorial Park in Clearview SA.
Their son David passed away on 14 Aug 2006 and is buried at Centennial Park, Panorama, SA.
